Roche’s Research and Early Development organisations at Genentech (gRED) and Pharma (pRED) have demonstrated how these technologies accelerate R&D, leveraging data and novel computational models to realize impact. The new computational sciences Center of Excellence (CoE) is a strategic, unified group whose goal is to harness this transformative power of data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to assist our scientists in both pRED and gRED to deliver more innovative and transformative medicines for patients worldwide. Opportunity The Sr.
Scientific Computing Product Manager is responsible for shaping and driving the strategy, adoption and evolution of scientific computing products and platforms that enable computational and data‑intensive research across the organization.
This position serves as a strategic bridge between scientific users in both REDs, Scientific Computing products and organisational management, ensuring that security, compliance and computing capabilities align with evolving research priorities and deliver measurable impact.
The role requires deep technical fluency, strong scientific domain understanding and exceptional cross‑functional collaboration skills.
Scientific Computing Product Manager focuses on enabling scalable, user‑centred solutions that support scientific workflows including high‑performance computing (HPC), data analysis, simulation, AI/ML and cloud‑enabled research environments.
This role also partners closely with Platform Engineering, Platform Enablement and Security, Compliance and Validation to ensure products are intuitive, reliable, secure and compliant.
Success in this role requires the ability to influence without direct authority, navigate ambiguity and connect long‑term platform strategy with practical researcher needs.
Responsibilities Define and oversee the long‑term product strategy and roadmap for scientific computing platforms and services Translate scientific and technical requirements into clear product direction, priorities and measurable outcomes Align product strategies with broader organisational goals in scientific computing, data and AI/ML enablement Develop a strong understanding of computational and data‑intensive scientific workflows across research domains Advocate for user‑centred product design that improves accessibility, usability and reproducibility Serve as a cross‑functional leader working across Scientific Computing and the enterprise IT organisation Influence roadmap prioritisation and delivery through partnership, collaboration and stakeholder engagement Define success metrics related to adoption, platform reliability, workflow efficiency and user satisfaction Qualifications Advanced degree in computational sciences, engineering, mathematics or equivalent experience 6+ years of experience in an academic research setting, life sciences or pharmaceutical research organisation Significant experience in scientific computing, research IT, computational science or related technical domains Strong understanding of scientific computing ecosystems including HPC environments and cloud infrastructure Hands‑on experience with HPC workload schedulers and computational research support models Familiarity with Kubernetes, containerisation and cloud‑native computing environments Ability to bridge scientific, technical and business domains through strong interdisciplinary communication Ability to balance long‑term platform investments with near‑term delivery needs to ensure value and delivery Who we are A healthier future drives us to innovate.
